NOW INCLUDES TEAM FORTRESS 2 LEVEL!
From the creators of Surgeon Simulator comes an adventure with a hero like no other! ‘I am Bread’ is the epic story of a slice of bread’s journey to become toast.
Take the intrepid, crumby adventurer on a journey from his natural confines of the kitchen, through the home of an unsuspecting owner and into the outside world. This bread will be boldly going where no other bread has gone before . . .
As you become attuned to bread’s uniquely challenging control system, you’ll progress from a fumbling slice of bread to a masterful bread ninja. Traversing your environment is intentionally demanding but reliable, making it possible to master even the most majestic and acrobatic of manoeuvres.
In addition to the deepest story ever seen in a video game, about a slice of bread, there are a wealth of baked options to sink your teeth into.
Additional game modes and other types of bread will cater for all tastes! Set speed records racing across the levels as a bagel; realise your destiny as crispbread in cheese hunt mode; relieve your stress as the baguette and smash everything in sight in rampage mode. Oh, and did we mention bread goes into space too?
Story Mode: Embark on an epic journey to become toast! Take on all hazards to deliciousness as you embark on your adventure throughout the home of an unsuspecting owner: from the kitchen, through the house, to the lounge, and then venture outside into the garden and beyond.
Cheese Hunt: Realise the destiny of crisp-bread as you hunt down pieces of cheese to smother yourself in. Can you find all the pieces before you crack up?
Bagel Race: Satisfy your taste for speed and bagels as you race across the checkpoints in each level and complete the tracks in the fastest possible time.
Rampage: Cause as much destruction as possible throughout the house as you smash everything in sight as (possibly) angry baguette. Mon dieu!
Zero-G: Literally bread in space! Make studious use of your bread boosters as you manoeuvre across environments with no gravity, avoiding all the floating hazards this entails in Zero-G mode.
Free-play: Explore the world and play as any of the bread types you have unlocked, having crumby fun in your own sweet time.
Team Fortress 2 Level: Features brand new Team Fortress 2 level…climb Heavy’s face, use tumour-inducing teleporters, fire the minigun and traverse a floor filled with sticky mines, all in the name of becoming “‘sandvich”’…
Starch Wars: We bring you….Starch Wars - A New Loaf’ - a fully playable space combat level!

Some frequently asked questions, and some we just made up in case you happened to ask!
Keyboard controls: Hold down 1, 2, 3 and 4 to grip with each corner of the bread, then use either the left mouse click and move or the arrow keys to shift the weight of the bread and swing around. You can also inch along by clicking and dragging or using the arrow keys.
Yes! In fact we highly encourage you to, as the game is even more enjoyable with a gamepad.
Use the triggers and shoulder buttons to grip with the bread, then use the left stick to shift the weight of the bread to swing around. You can also inch along by using the left stick by itself.
Sure you can! I mean, it’s not like we can stop you, but you will probably have a hard time playing the game.
We only officially support the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 and Ouya controllers at the moment. Other controllers might work, but we cannot guarantee it as they haven’t been extensively tested.
There should be a switch on the back to switch from XInput to DirectInput. Set it to DirectInput and see if that solves your problem.
Try using the Windows 7 drivers. Just Google windows 7 XBOX 360 controller drivers and find the result on the official Microsoft website. You should simply be able to download and install the Windows 7 drivers from this site.
Deal with it!
Plus - practice makes perfect, remember? 😉
You should see what it was like before we toned the difficulty down… plus, Luke the designer hates humanity. In all seriousness, if it was too easy, anyone could do it. We’ve made the game challenging so that those of you who are able to complete it and get all the achievements can feel rightly proud of yourselves.
Magic Marmalade will unlock if you repeatedly fail a level in the story mode. Smash the jar to cover yourself in its magical goodness and disable the grip meter and edibility; you’re then free to complete the level at your leisure. Completing a level with Magic Marmalade restricts you to an E grade on completion, so it’s not something to use if you want to be a Grade A student of bakery.
Yes! Crackerbread, Baguette, Bagel and the Space Bread will unlock as you progress. Each has very different properties.
How do you know the bread isn’t gluten free?
Many of the ideas from I Am Bread were suggested by the community and we then incorporated them with our own special twist. We’re always monitoring the forums, so if we see there is a big demand for these, we’ll have a think about how/if we can do something fun with the new ideas.
When changing screen resolution sometimes the cursor lock can fail.
Click back into the game window, pause the game by hitting Escape, then click resume. This will re-enable the cursor lock.
Click Options and adjust your resolution and fullscreen setting.
Click the Apply Resolution tab to confirm your changes.
Who knows? 🙂
Go to the options menu from the main menu area. Turn texture and shadow quality down and lower the screen resolution. Keep doing this in increments until the game is playable. If you’re still having problems, please ensure your machine meets the current minimum specification. If it does and you’re still having issues please contact [email protected]
We never sold it as a simulator, and sadly we can’t help that we’ve already made a successful and scientifically accurate simulator game and people expect all subsequent titles to be simulators.
You’re special, please send us your computer so we can figure out what is wrong with it. We won’t pay for return postage. kthxbai
Seriously though, take a look at the Steam forums to see if someone else already solved your problem, and if not, drop us an email at [email protected]
Arc your head to the skies, cup your hands around your mouth and yell “MALFORD”. Also, email [email protected]
Of course you can. All we ask is that you put a link to the game in the video description.
When you download the game the soundrack will DOWNLOAD MAGICALLY ON TO YOUR COMPUTER! OOOOOOHHHH! TO FIND IT right click on the game in your steam library, click on “PROPERTIES” then under the “LOCAL FILES” tab click on “BROWSE LOCAL FILES”. They are in a folder called “OST”. Also you can use AI stem splitter to remove vocals from any track. Enjoy!
Yes indeedy. You can fulfil all of your bread-related clothing and homeware fantasies right here:
Yes. Don’t say it’s yours though. Credit our friends who made it: http://blackheron.bandcamp.com/ and Joepainemusic.com.
Not at the moment! Hopefully soon…
You can see a full list of those here:
You can’t. Not unless you have bought the game first. Then, write your criticism on a used napkin, eat it then go about your daily life as normal. Alternatively, head to the Steam forums and if your criticism is constructive, we’ll pop in and have a chat to you about it.
We don’t currently have the capacity to maintain linux releases. Maybe when SteamOS is a thing. Don’t assume that if(unity == true) { linux.support = easy; }
